MILES MIDDLETON

Shepshed Building Society is delighted to present a cheque to Shepshed Gymnast Miles Middleton to support his activity, including his recent entry into the Special Olympic Gymnastic competition in Leicester. Miles had a truly memorable week, winning 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze medals as well as the all round Gold medal!
Miles says, “I have been doing gymnastics for 15 years and have competed in the World Games in Dublin as well as in numerous regional and national competitions. Being at those competitions has given me the experience needed to compete well in these Games and I am absolutely thrilled by my performance and medal haul.”
Greg Williamson, Society Chief Executive adds, “We at the Society are delighted by Miles’ achievement in the Special Olympic Gymnastic competition. It is great to help such a local talent and we hope that he will have continued success in competitions to come!”

SHEPSHED AMATEURS FC

Shepshed Building Society is delighted to present a cheque to Shepshed Amateurs FC to purchase essential equipment including a new line marker.
Peter Coe, the Club Vice Chairman says “Shepshed Amateurs F C has been established for over 50 years. We have 2 sides, the first team plays in the Premier Division of the North Leicestershire Football League and the reserve team plays in the 4th Division. The club is run by volunteers and players and provides its own equipment such as nets, posts and the line marker, which is over 30 years old.”
“We would like to thank Shepshed Building Society for the sponsorship money which will be well used. The line marker is older than some of the players and I have been marking the pitch with it for all of its 30 years!” adds Peter.
Greg Williamson, Shepshed Building Society Chief Executive adds, “The Society is keen to support grass roots sports in the area and we are delighted to help provide vital equipment to the Club”.

HATHERN HORTICULTURAL SHOW

Shepshed Building Society is delighted to present a cheque to the Hathern Horticultural Society for sponsorship of the 21st Annual Hathern Show 2009.
Proceeds raised from the show were in aid of the Guide Dogs for the Blind, Rainbows Children’s Hospice, The County Air Ambulance and local clubs, societies and charities.

LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY CRICKET CLUB

Leicestershire County Cricket Club (LCCC) acknowledges the backing given by Shepshed Building Society to grass roots cricket with its three year sponsorship of Shepshed Town Cricket Club, particularly in the current economic climate. Also recognised is the contribution of Greg Williamson who has recently been appointed as the Club Chairman. Greg brings many years business leadership experience to the Committee.
Tim Boon at LCCC said, “It is vital that business expertise is brought into a cricket club. For a club to thrive then success on the field must be complemented with sound business acumen off of it; this is clearly demonstrable at Shepshed.“
Greg Williamson enthuses, “The Shepshed is pleased to be associated with Shepshed Town CC. This is not just through sponsorship, but also through participation; the Society is working closely with the Club to develop the Schools Enhancement Curriculum Programme. Shepshed Building Society is delighted to have sponsored the Climbing Wall at the Shepshed Dolphin Swimming Group’s annual Have a Go Day of Sport.
Shepshed Dolphin’s Group Administrator, Penny Hefferan said, “Have a Go Day of Sport is now in its 19th year and gives disabled people of all ages the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities.”
Shepshed Dolphin’s Honorary President, and founder of the event, Nina Walker added, “We are very proud to once again hold this event. We are very grateful for the support of all involved, including the Shepshed Building Society with this very kind donation.”

DISEWORTH HERITAGE CENTRE

Shepshed Building Society is delighted to have presented a cheque to Diseworth Heritage Trust. The cheque was presented to Peter Miller, Treasurer and the Trustees by Karen Freer of the Society at the newly opened Diseworth Heritage Centre, the former Baptist Church. The payment represents an amount due under the Society’s Affiliation Sponsorship scheme for the years 2007 and 2008.
Greg Williamson, Chief Executive of the Society said, “The Shepshed is delighted that the Trust has participated in the Affiliation Sponsorship scheme. The scheme provides income for groups who have their members open savings accounts at the Society.”. Martin Hening, Chair of the Trustees, added, “We are very appreciative of the support given by the Society and this latest donation will help us with our future planning.”

Loughborough Dynamo Women’s FC is delighted to receive a cheque from its main sponsor Shepshed Building Society.
Presented by the Society’s Chief Executive, Greg Williamson to Club Manager Mick Garton, the money helped to provide new team polo shirts which commemorated the Club reaching the Leicestershire Women’s County Cup Final.
Mick Garton commented “This achievement demonstrates our progress and we are very grateful to the support given by Shepshed Building Society”.

SHEPSHED BUILDING SOCIETY SUPPORTS ROTARY CLUB OF SHEPSHED ANTI-BULLYING INITIATIVE

Shepshed Building Society Chief Executive, Greg Williamson, presented a cheque to Rotary Club of Shepshed which will be used to produce a student book on Anti-Bullying.
The money was donated at the Shepshed High School and was raised by Society staff member, Richard Carson, who ran the recent Silverstone Half-Marathon on behalf of the project.
John Fox-Russell Youth Opportunities Officer of the Rotary commented, “For several years the Rotary Club of Shepshed has promoted a Young Writer activity in Shepshed schools. This year the club was pleased to be able to support the production of a book containing students' work across all four years. A significant part of the book is devoted to work by the students on the subject of bullying, following an Anti-bullying week held last November".

BUILDING SOCIETY CASH FOR CHILD SAFETY PROJECT

MORE single parents or low income families with young children in Shepshed will be able to receive free safety equipment thanks to a donation from the Shepshed.
Greg Williamson, chief executive, presented the cheque to members working on the Shepshed Child Safety Equipment Scheme.
The voluntary scheme has worked over the years to provide equipment such as fireguards and stair gates to protect children under the age of five at home.
Sally Bardsley, Shepshed Volunteering Development officer, said: “This scheme is tremendously important for families with small children."
